The 9 to10 years post-disturbance coarse woody debris volumes is similar between fire island remnants and harvest island remnants in the lodgepole dominated boreal forest in the Upper Foothills Natural Subregion or West-Central Alberta. Contrary to my expectations, it appears that the harvest and fire islands experience a similar amount of deadwood volume. This suggests that the ecosystem-based management conducted by the forest industries we surveyed have effectively emulated the natural disturbance to a considerable degree.
